It was conceived and funded as a national academic institution affiliated with the University of London and serving all universities through its National Legal Research Library. Founded in 1979, the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) is a leading legal research institution in Nigeria. This renewal supports the development of a curriculum for trainers on the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) and the State Administration of Criminal Law (ACJL) for the National Association of Law Teachers; CAJA case summaries and policy briefs on case law and substantive decisions; advocacy and participation in the legislative and constitutional review of CAJA; developing judicial rules to support the effective implementation of the CAJA; review of judicial appointment guidelines; and the development of guidelines for criminal justice actors in the context of COVID-19. This award is part of a package of six grants that contribute to Nigeria`s criminal justice strategy, which aims to strengthen and deepen the legal framework for the prosecution of criminal cases through the implementation of ACJA and ACJL.
