Some CodeX projects focus on building systems that enable legal system stakeholders to network and collaborate more effectively. By leveraging advances in informatics and building on national and international standardization efforts, these projects have the potential to bring economic and social benefits by streamlining the interactions of individuals, organizations, legal professionals and government in obtaining and delivering legal services. By combining the development of these platforms with cross-border research on relevant government and business regulations, CodeX supports responsible and forward-looking innovation in the legal sector. At CodeX, researchers, lawyers, entrepreneurs and technologists work side by side to push the boundaries of legal technology and create new levels of legal efficiency, transparency and access to legal systems around the world. Legal document management involves the creation, storage, and retrieval of legal documents of all kinds – laws, case law, patents, and regulations. The multi-billion dollar eDiscovery market relies heavily on information retrieval (IR) technology. Automating information retrieval significantly reduces costs and can often outperform manual search in terms of accuracy. CodeX explores various innovative methods of managing legal documents and helps facilitate the use of these methods throughout the legal industry. These three approaches to solving legal information problems can build on each other and leverage the strengths of each technique to provide the most effective solutions.
